Co-Design Principles

Inclusive Design and Design Justice embrace the process of co-design, a participatory approach that treats all collaborators as equals. Fundamental to Art + Design + Mind is establishing a set of core principles that will guide our collective work. We welcome all community members’ voices in helping us to develop principles that are inclusive and meet the needs of all SFSU community members.

Feel free to share your suggestions for principles. HERE ARE SOME SAMPLE STATEMENTS THAT COULD BECOME GUIDELINES. Feel free to use these, modify these, or create your own. Samples courtesy of U of Michigan CRLT and the Inclusive Design and Design Justice track at the Digital Pedagogy Lab.

  1. We will be mindful that there are different approaches to solving problems.
  2. We will model listening and receptivity to the ideas of others.
  3. We will be aware of the impact of our words and actions, and take responsibility for our impact and our mistakes.
